Just in case you want to know who the players are in my life:
Me. Thirtysomething that’s still lying about her age. I love this blogging stuff. This is my chance to leave a legacy for my friends since I don’t have any heirs or siblings. Single (and celibate) at the moment, got divorced about 5 years ago. I actually like my job too. Life is good.
Smartest dog in the world, my dog Layla: she is the ultimate companion and has saved me from being terribly lonesome. She’s been with me for about 3 years and is so smart and funny. She’s very mellow and laid back. I went out with one guy who didn’t like dogs – you can guess how that turned out. Anyone that’s ever met this dog falls in love with her. I really wish she could talk.
The BFF: Also known as Fluff, Fluffy, Rob or Robin. Best friends since our college days at DeldahGamma. Hard to believe that it’s been 20+ years; we’ve been through a lot over the past two decades. Love our matching tattoos!
BFF’s family: My surrogate family – her husband (a legend in his own mind) and two daughters (E and G). Love them!
Dan the Man: My dad…what can I say, my dad rocks! He is so fun and cool to hang out with. Famous line’s of Dan that you’ll hear occasionally from me – “worthless as tits on a pickhandle” and “let’s have a beer – it’s noon in Montana”.
Will & Grace: My mom & stepdad, they are super religious, so I always have censor myself when I’m around them.
The dysfunctional functional Ex-Husband’s family: Includes my bro & sister-in-law, and my nephews. The Ex and I actually tolerate each other at family functions; I think it’s because I don’t have to go home with him. It might seem a bit weird, but even the Ex’s girlfriends kids call me Auntie.
The nephews: These guys are the loves of my life! They are so fun, ages 8 and 5, m y favorites. Totally hilarious and cool kids. Auntie spoils them rotten and then they get to go home – what could be better???
The college pals: University of Idaho (Go Vandals!), Delta Gamma sorority, those were the days. There’s just something about living in a house with 60 women – my college friends are the best! It’s funny, because we don’t all see each other a lot, but when we do, it’s just natural. Like if you run into people from high school, sometimes after 5 minutes you don’t have anything to say, but not the same with the alumni group. These are the friends that a person is lucky to have and have forever. I’ve got some great stories to add from our girl’s weekends.
My co-workers: the Intern, the New Guy, the Boss and the Bookkeeper. Not a lot to talk about here, we don’t get into personal stuff at work, but I will talk about them occasionally. Intern has a Fiancé. (You see where I’m going with this, my Fiancé this, my Fiancé that. Intern now has a wife. Good luck with that).
The Girls: I lived in small town USA until recently and have some very cool friends. Mostly marrieds with children, but it’s evolved from going to The Tav after softball games with the girls to celebrating kids’ birthdays and the occasional girl’s night out.
Drinking Buddies: My new girlfriends in my new town, other funster committees that I’m on and my two tall, dark and handsome drinking buddies (they are the perfect dates, they both have girlfriends so it takes all the pressure off and we just hang out and drink beer).
The Exes: I’m not going to run through the rolodex on this (it could take a while) but the most recent are:
- The Ex Husband. He still drives me nuts, but at least we can tolerate each other. My sister in law wants us to get back together, but I think she’s crazy. We’ve been divorced almost 5 years.
- Boy Toy. The latest ex-boyfriend. 12 years younger but F’nA was he good in the sack. Would probably still be screwing, I mean, seeing him if he didn’t live three hours away. I’m scarred from this relationship – literally, I think I fractured my foot on a wild snowmobile escapade.
- Uncle Kevie. Another long distance relationship…Hmmm. Do I see a trend here? Long distance relationships are great because you still have your own space and never fight. We’re still friends. He’s one of those guys that gets along well with women – he loves shopping and cooking (not gay, but if you didn’t know him you’d wonder). We joke that he’s the female version of me,he actually likes girlie shit that I totally don’t!
- A$$&*%e. This ex totally broke my heart. Should have known better than to go out with another cop…We don’t talk about him anymore.
