I love a road trip. Road trips for me are a way to reflect and just let my mind wander. Now, I really didn’t need six hours of reflection, but it was good nonetheless. Went to Boise, Idaho for a long weekend to see the college girlfriends. Nothing like a weekend of laughter, beer and wine and hanging out with them and their families to be just what the doctor ordered. We might only see each other once every few years, but we can still pick up from where saw each other last. When you live in a house with 65 other women, you tend to get close. We’ve seen kids grow, parents age, marriages crumble (mine, not theirs), people pass on, and life (and lots of laughs) happen along the way.
One of the highlights was going to the horse races at Les Bois Park. Cheap entertainment (hello, two dollars to get in?) and lots of people watching. I think horse racing ranks right up there with a demolition derby on the type of crowd. Don’t ask me how, but somehow the guys knew all about the implants of some track tarts there. The service was so bad that they had to go to the bar to get more brews, so I guess they overheard them discussing their new saline-filled jugs. Oh, and then the waitress overheard us joking about the DG secret handshake, and lo and behold, she was a DG from Idaho. Normally we would have been a little more excited about this, but in this case, it sucked because now we had to give her a good tip in the name of sisterhood.
Anyways… The boys were discussing their strategies for picking a winner, statistics, race times, Vandal colors, etc.. Of course, I went strictly based on the names – I wagered on Majestic Willie (no explanation there, how can you not laugh at that name) and Poorboys Playboy, thinking I’d even take a poor non-playboy right now for a date, and guess what?!?!?! I won! A whopping TWENTY CENTS. Are you freaking kidding me? Don’t spend it all in one place, huh?
