What’s your MPG?

July 9, 2008 · 1 Comment

Sports page quote of the day: “That means, on average, Americans get about 41 miles to the gallon.  Kind of makes you proud to be an American.”  Jack Finarelli, on recent studies showing average Americans walk about 900 miles per year while drinking about 22 gallons of alcohol per year.

I’m not sure what the study means, walking that many miles compared to drinking 22 gallons of booze, or walking while at the same time consuming alcohol, not entirely uncommon.  Anyone who has been to a U of Idaho Vandal football game has experienced plenty of this while tailgating.

I know some folks out there might actually track their gas mileage; I generally know how many miles I can go on a tank before it hits the old ‘”E” mark.  I even had this gal tell me that she could get improve her MPG by adjusting the air in her tires.  Hello, does someone need to get a freaking life? And I thought my life was uneventful…
